Mater Dei High School and a nearby grade school were briefly placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon as Santa Ana police fanned out in search of several shooting suspects.

Police later lifted the lockdown order at the Catholic high school and a nearby grade school, Sepulveda Elementary.

A 20-year-old man was reportedly shot around 1:30 p.m. and taken to a nearby hospital, police said. He is expected to survive.

Police said they recovered a weapon but that two males believed to be the shooters were still at large. Both are thought to be in their late teens.

The victim was walking in the 1600 block of Borchard Avenue when two suspects fired as many as 10 shots for unknown reasons, Santa Ana Police Department spokesman Anthony Bertagna said.

The victim fled after being struck. He sought assistance a short distance away, at a residence in the 1400 block of Doreen Way, Bertagna said.
