Wildfire burns more than 9,000 acres near Nevada-Oregon border
A wildfire that started after a lightning strike continues to spread through a remote part of Nevada and has burned more than 9,000 acres of land in three days, officials said.
The fire, which erupted around 11 p.m. Tuesday, had burned to 9,325 acres and was beginning to threaten several ranches as of Friday morning, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.
The blaze was burning roughly three miles south of the Oregon border and 25 miles northeast of Fort Bidwell, Calif., the release said.
Wind and low humidity were contributing to the fire’s rapid spread, according to the release, and first responders had only contained about 15% of the blaze as of Friday morning.
More than 300 emergency responders were on the scene, and Forest Service officials said the blaze could burn until at least July 9.
