Teacher who gave birth to student’s child tied to other cases

Police have identified two more alleged victims of a Redlands high school teacher who was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a teenage boy and giving birth to their child.

Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, was arrested Monday night in an alleged sexual relationship with a 16-year-old Citrus Valley High School student that lasted nearly a year.

Whitehurst gave birth June 18 to a boy, said Cmdr. Shawn Ryan of the Redlands Police Department.

Detectives have identified another victim. He was allegedly a 14-year-old freshman when a sexual relationship began with Whitehurst, police said.

The suspected relationship began in fall of 2007. Now 20, the man told detectives that he and Whitehurst had sex in her classroom before school, in her apartment and in her car, said Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker. He said the relationship ended in early 2008.

Another alleged victim, now 22, came forward after Whitehurst’s arrest and told police he had a sexual relationship with the teacher. He said the relationship took place when was a junior at the high school, according to Baker.

Redlands police launched its investigation after the mother of the boy who fathered her child alerted school officials. They called Redlands police Monday.

Whitehurst was released from custody Monday after she posted $25,000 bail. Whitehurst has not been charged yet.

The teacher was immediately placed on leave by the Redlands Unified School District.
