Man lying near tracks killed by Amtrak train in San Diego, authorities say

A man lying near the railroad tracks in San Diego was struck and killed Saturday morning by an Amtrak train, according to the county sheriff’s department.
The incident occurred about 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Damon Avenue and Santa Fe Street, officials said. The northbound train was carrying 70 passengers.
The engineer applied the brakes but the train was unable to stop before hitting the man, according to the sheriff’s department. The victim’s name was not released.
