Two men were found shot in an overturned sports car in Westminster early Saturday morning.

Officers responded at about 5:10 a.m. to separate reports of a car accident and shots fired near the intersection of Springdale and Ash streets near the 405 Freeway, said Westminster police Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze.

Officers discovered an overturned Audi coup. The driver and passenger were still inside, bleeding from gunshot wounds.

The victims, whose names were not released, were driving home from a taco stand, Knauerhaze said. They were hospitalized; one is stable, the other in serious condition.

Knauerhaze said it appears the victims were driving when they were shot and the driver lost control of the car.

Police have arrested a suspect, Ryan Paul McAlister, 27, in connection to the shootings.

Knauerhaze said detectives identified McAlister, whom he described as a “transient” living in Costa Mesa, based on interviews with witnesses and one of the victims. McAlister was arrested Saturday after a search of his home and vehicle turned up a handgun.

Detectives believe McAlister had a relationship with the victims, although they have not released more detail. Knauerhaze said the incident does not appear to be gang-related.

McAlister was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

Westminster police detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the shooting attack to call them at (714) 898-3315.
