A woman died and two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out Monday afternoon at a La Habra mobile home.

The woman was believed to be in her 50s, and the two La Habra police officers were transported to a local hospital, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The officers were trying to work their way into the burning structure when they were overcome by the smoke, a department spokesman said. Their condition was not immediately known.

The blaze broke out about 4:30 p.m. and quickly engulfed the structure in the 1700 block of Lambert Avenue.

“It burned pretty hot,” Capt. Thomas Richards told The Times. “It was a condensed area.”

The victim was discovered as firefighters searched the trailer. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
