UCLA has held on to defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker, at least for now.

Walker said he will spend the next few weeks considering his options after learning Sunday that he did not get the head coaching spot at San Diego State. It has been reported that Ball State Coach Brady Hoke will be hired.

“You go through the process knowing that they were looking at head coaching experience,” Walker said. “Still, I took a shot at it.”

The Aztecs’ search came down to Hoke and Walker, both of whom had follow-up interviews with the school last week.

Walker also has been in contact with New Mexico State, which is looking for a head coach, and his name has come up in connection with several assistant jobs around the country.

The Bruins’ coordinator said he will devote the next week to recruiting, then take some time off to rest and think.

“Obviously, I’m still happy at UCLA,” he said. “So you can’t disregard that.”
