Dodgers don’t have a comeback for San Francisco

KEY MOMENT: The Giants had runners on second and third with two outs in the fourth inning when Nori Aoki hit a slow roller to Adrian Gonzalez at first base. Gonzalez scooped up the ball, but his toss to first was too far in front of pitcher Brett Anderson. As the ball bounced in the direction of the Dodgers’ dugout, two runs scored, increasing the Giants’ lead to 4-0.

ON THE MOUND: Anderson lasted only four innings and was charged with four runs and nine hits. The Giants scored their first run in the second inning when Joc Pederson failed to make a diving catch on a line drive hit to the left-center field gap by Justin Maxwell, who was credited with a triple. Maxwell scored on a bunt single by Brandon Crawford. Maxwell put the game out of reach in the eighth inning. After sliding into the wall in the right field corner to catch a foul ball by Yasiel Puig in the top of the inning, Maxwell launched a two-run home run off Pedro Baez in the bottom half that extended the Giants’ lead to 6-1.

AT THE PLATE: In only his third plate appearance since April 14, Alex Guerrero drove in the Dodgers’ first run with a pinch-hit double in the fifth inning. On his 24th birthday, Pederson was one for two with two walks. Pederson was raised in nearby Palo Alto and his family was in attendance. He admitted he was excited to be playing at AT&T Park. “I grew up watching Barry Bonds,” Pederson said. “This is definitely the place I came to watch baseball games.”

ROSTER MOVE: Minor league outfielder Chris Heisey was in the clubhouse Tuesday, preparing to be added to the active roster the following day. “I’ll be activated for tomorrow’s game, I believe,” Heisey said. Heisey, who was acquired in an off-season trade with the Cincinnati Reds, started the season with triple-A Oklahoma City. Manager Don Mattingly declined to reveal the team’s plans for Heisey, other than to say the outfielder wasn’t at AT&T Park as insurance for Puig, who was in the lineup and had two of the Dodgers’ seven

hits Tuesday but missed four of the five previous games

with a strained left hamstring. Here’s what the Dodgers could do: option one of their surplus relief pitchers to the minors and promote Heisey on Wednesday, then send Heisey back down and call up a starting pitcher for the series finale Thursday.
