KEY MOMENT: Jamey Wright gave up an 11th-inning double to Rockies pinch-hitter Brandon Barnes, after which Wright was replaced by left-hander J.P. Howell. Facing the left-handed-hitting Charlie Blackmon, Howell gave up a run-scoring single that broke a 2-2 stalemate. The run was the first of three in the inning for the Rockies. Adrian Gonzalez closed the gap to 5-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning.
ON THE MOUND: Josh Beckett pitched what was by far his best game of the season, limiting the Rockies to two runs and four hits over eight innings. He struck out six and walked none. The only two runs charged to Beckett came in the second inning, when he served up solo home runs to Troy Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson.
AT THE PLATE: Yasiel Puig hit his third home run on a first-inning line drive to right-center field. The home run was Puig's second of the homestand.
UH-OH: Matt Kemp became the first Dodger to be ejected this season. Kemp was tossed from the game in the ninth inning by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez for arguing balls and strikes.
MEDICAL REPORT: A day after he was charged with four runs, Brian Wilson said nothing was wrong with his surgically repaired elbow. He said the nerve problem that landed him on the disabled list earlier this season hasn't returned. "I built up my arm strength, but as far as being locked in, I'm not near it," he said. Wilson said he believes his command problems are the result of not pitching regularly. "I need more repetitions on a consistent basis," he said. Otherwise, I'm not going to get locked in." Manager Don Mattingly said high pitch counts have prevented Wilson from pitching regularly. In Wilson's first game back from the disabled list, for example, he threw 28 pitches. "We're trying to get him back, but back-to-back after (28 pitches) is a little rough." With Wilson's earned-run average at 15.75, Mattingly said Chris Perez could replace him as the primary setup man.
