Matt Kemp returns to the disabled list with shoulder irritation

PHOENIX – Matt Kemp is back on the disabled list, this time because of irritation in the AC joint of his left shoulder.

The Dodgers also placed Stephen Fife on the disabled list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder

Kemp hurt his shoulder on a swing-and-miss Friday night in San Francisco and sat out the remaining two games of the series against the Giants. He tested his shoulder in early batting practice Monday and still felt pain.

“It’s going to take more than a couple days, I would think,” Kemp said. “I want to play at 100%. I don’t want to play at 70, 80. I’m not good when I’m 70, 80%. I might be all right, but I want to be really good.”

Scott Van Slyke was recalled from triple-A Albuquerque to replace Kemp.

“I want to be out there and help my team out,” Kemp said. “I want to help them win. But right now, injuries hold me back. Weird. Freaky. I thought everything was good. My shoulder’s been good. I took a long swing and something felt wrong. I’ve just to go deal with it.”

Kemp will return to Los Angeles to visit team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

“I actually started feeling really good at the plate the last three or four games before that happened,” Kemp said. “Hopefully, I just don’t lose that feeling.”

Meanwhile, the roster spot that was vacated by Fife was filled by recently acquired Ricky Nolasco, who will make his Dodger debut Tuesday. Fife’s next scheduled turn in the rotation, on Thursday, will be made by Chris Capuano.
