City Section teams return to action

City Section basketball teams returned to action on Thursday for the first time since the teachers’ strike began on Jan. 14 trying to get rid of the rust from not practicing or playing.

Fairfax came away with a 67-56 Western League win over Palisades to improve to 18-1 and set up a showdown for first place on Friday at Westchester. Robert McRae made three threes and finished with 13 points. Ronald Mitchell added 10 points.

University defeated LACES 67-32. David Cheatom scored 16 points.

Grant defeated Arleta 64-55. Chayce Polynice scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds. Grant is 15-6 and 6-0 in the East Valley League.

Santa Margarita stunned Las Vegas Bishop Gorman 63-60. Max Agbonkpolo scored 22 points and a Jake Kyman had 20 points.

Windward defeated Viewpoint 75-64 in a Gold Coast League game. Devin Tillis scored 23 points. Ben Yarovinsky scored 24 points for Viewpoint.

Corona Centennial defeated Norco 70-28.

In Florida, Rancho Christian defeated Miami Christian 75-63.
