Baseball: Marina gets a third win over Huntington Beach, 2-1

No. 1-ranked Huntington Beach lost for third time in Sunset League play to Marina on Friday, 2-1, spoiling the debut at its new home stadium.

The Oilers continue to have problems against Riley Ohl, who struck out eight, walked none and finished with a complete game to outduel Hagen Danner, who struck out nine.

Eric Anderson had two hits and Tyler Abend had an RBI double. Marina is 5-2 in league and Huntington Beach 4-3.

Edison 4, Los Alamitos 3: Kyler Arenado got the walk-off hit in the seventh for Edison, which is tied with Huntington Beach for second place in the Sunset League. Arenado finished with three hits. Kaz Akamatsu threw four innings of relief.

Fountain Valley 10, Newport Harbor 7: The Barons scored four runs in the seventh to tie the Sunset League game and won it with three runs in the ninth.

Loyola 7, Chaminade 5: Stephen Burke went four for four and Timmy Post threw five shutout innings in the Mission League victory that leaves the Cubs in first place. Beamin Carter had a three-run double. Blake Beers got the save. Loyola faces Harvard-Westlake next week.

Alemany 4, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 3: Brandon Lewis hit a three-run home run off Hunter Greene to help the Warriors win the Mission League game. Notre Dame loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh, but Casey Horvat got a pop out and two strikeouts to earn the save. In the sixth, the Knights also had the bases loaded but sophomore Blaine Traxel got a strikeout to end the threat.

Harvard-Westlake 6, St. Francis 1: The Wolverines completed a Mission League sweep of St. Francis.

Palos Verdes 4, Mira Costa 2: Sander Alley struck out six in six innings, Kyle Mashy hit a home run and Conor Wischman finished with three hits in the Bay League victory for Palos Verdes.

Orange Lutheran 2, St. John Bosco 0: The Lancers got the Trinity League three-game sweep behind Cole Spear, who threw four shutout innings, and Luke Mattson, who added three shutout innings. Brendan Avventino had two hits and two RBIs.

Mater Dei 7, Servite 4: Josh Stephen went three for four to give the Monarchs two wins and three games against Servite in the opening week of the Trinity League.

Santa Margarita 12, JSerra 4: Josh Nicoloff had three hits and three RBIs to help the Eagles win the Trinity League game and avoid a three-game sweep. Johnny Carr had a two-run home run during an eight-run second inning.

Foothill 2, Esperanza 1: Dillon Brown (7-1, 0.42) continued his exceptional pitching for Foothill. He threw a four-hitter, striking out six.

Dana Hills 4, Tesoro 2: Shawn Kany had three hits and David Clawson contributed two RBIs as Dana Hills completed a sweep of Tesoro this week.

Beckman 3, Woodbridge 0: Jack Wiese threw a three-hit shutout, striking out eight. Matt McLain and Jack Owens had doubles.

El Toro 3, Aliso Niguel 2: Sam Glick struck out seven and threw a five-hitter and Stone Shiffman contributed three RBIs.

Simi Valley 8, Camarillo 6: Cal Hodgins hit a three-run home run during a four-run sixth inning to help the Pioneers rally for a Coastal Canyon League win. Hodgins went three for three on the day. So did Camarillo’s Frankie Tostado. Turner Nelson of Simi Valley had a three-run home run in the first inning.

Moorpark 9, Royal 3: Greg Dominguez, Connor Chapman, Jimmy Friery and Junior Sandoval each had two hits.

Bonita 7, Claremont 0: Jordan Dreschsler threw 4 1/3 shutout innings to help Bonita improve to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the Palomares League. Tommy Delgado, Noah Williams and Kenji Henderson had two hits each.

South Hills 4, Glendora 0: Brandon Dieter threw the shutout. Aaron Fong had two hits and two RBIs.

Etiwanda 2, Upland 1: Mike Berg scattered nine hit to inflict the first defeat on Upland in the Baseline League.

Damien 4, Rancho Cucamonga 0: Nick Lodolo threw a three-hit shutout.

Temescal Canyon 2, Lakeside 1: Parker Harmon had the game-winning sacrifice fly and Christian Bruno got the pitching win in the Sunbelt League.

Corona Santiago 9, Corona 2: Brice Turang, Ryan Williams, Ryon Knowles and Manny Perez _ the top four batters in the lineup _ each had two hits for Santiago, which is 7-0 in the Big VIII League. The No. 5 batter, Jacob Shanks, had three hits and the No. 6 batter, Cole Cummings, had four RBIs.

Cypress 1, Tustin 0: Raul Salazar struck out four, walked nine and allowed three hits. Anthony Marquez went two for two and drove in the only run in the seventh inning.

Calabasas 4, Westlake 2: Paker Brahms threw a complete game and Shawn Goosenberg added two hits in the Marmonte League win.

Oaks Christian 13, Thousand Oaks 5: The Lions hit four home runs in the Marmonte League win. Phil Quartararo had two home runs and Noah Prewett and Adam Kerner also hit home runs. Quartararo went four for four with four RBIs. Kerner had three hits. John Glenn homered for Thousand Oaks.

Newbury Park 3, Agoura 2: Jake Miller had three hits to lead the Panthers. Carson Lambert threw four shutout innings of relief, allowing zero hits.

North Hollywood 17, Grant 0: Brandon Sorto had a one-hit shutout for five innings. Ryan Ruiz went four for four with a home run.

Sun Valley Poly 13, Chavez 4: Tony Ramirez threw a complete game. John Lopez had two hits and three RBIs in the East Valley League game.

Kennedy 11, Marshall 0: Philip Alfaro gave up one hit in the shutout for the Golden Cougars.

Cleveland 11, Taft 4: The Cavaliers improved to 21-1 and 4-0 in the West Valley League. Greg Conklin (4-0) struck out five in six innings. Victor Gonzalez had two hits and two RBIs.

Chatsworth 5, El Camino Real 2: The Chancellors got a split of their two-game West Valley League series against El Camino Real. Ryan Roche threw a complete game and Max Mehlbaum hit a two-run home run. Josh Garcia added two hits. Chatsworth faces 21-1 Cleveland in a two-series next week.

Birmingham 3, Granada Hills 0: Alexis Miranda threw a complete game to outduel Chris Murphy, who had seven strikeouts and gave up three hits. Miranda gave up five hits.

Valencia 6, Hart 0: Chase Farrell threw five shutout innings for the Vikings to keep them in first place in the Foothill League.

Saugus 10, Canyon 3: The Centurions won the Foothill League game. Kyle Dawson had two hits and four RBIs. Rudy Aguilar added three hits.

West Ranch 19, Golden Valley 0: Doug Gragg went five for five with five RBIs.

Lakewood 6, Long Beach Poly 4: The Lancers won the Moore League game.

Bellflower 22, Artesia 0: Ricky Romero threw his fifth consecutive shutout.

Quartz Hill 2, Eastside 1: The Rebels got a walk-off hit in the eighth inning from Jonathan Cornish in the Golden League game.

Crescenta Valley 9, Burbank 1: The Falcons scored eight runs in the sixth inning to stay unbeaten in the Pacific League. Brian Erickson had a two-run triple.

Dos Pueblos 9, Santa Barbara 5: Davy Demeter had a two-run single during a six-run third inning for Dos Pueblos. John Jensen had three hits for Santa Barbara.
