Boys’ basketball: Jacob Davison lifts Cantwell-Sacred Heart

Jacob Davison of Cantwell-Sacred Heart always finds a way to smile on the court.

“I love doing what I do,” the 6-foot-3 junior guard says.

He has a Twitter handle “Whitemancanjump,” but it was his jump shot working well in the first quarter on Monday in an opening game of the Beverly Hills tournament. He scored 13 points, including a four-point play, and finished with 14 points in Cantwell-Sacred Heart’s 49-44 win over Palisades. Eli Zedan, the son of Coach George Zedan, made four three-pointers. The Cardinals are 4-1.

Santa Monica opened with a 72-50 win over Leuzinger. Jonah Mathews scored 22 points, New Williams had 15 and Spencer Freedman 13. Beverly Hills defeated Hamilton, 49-43, with Chance Comanche scoring 12 points and getting 18 rebounds. Long Beach Poly defeaed Birmingham, 61-30.

Santa Ana Mater Dei improved to 2-0 with a 77-30 win over Long Beach Cabrillo. La’Vette Parker scored 19 points and Rex Pflueger added 17 points. KJ Smith had 14 points and Michael Cage 13.

In the Ventura County Classic, Viewpoint defeated Moorpark, 86-48. Jake Weaver-Thompson scored 23 points, including seven three-pointers. Aram Arslanian had 17 points and Miye Oni added 15. Valencia defeated Royal, 73-64. Malik McCowan scored 20 points.

Thousand Oaks defeated Buena, 83-43. Matt Hauser finished with 21 points and Derek Ludlow 15. Westlake defeated Dos Pueblos, 66-22. Michael Hanshaw had 13 points. Calabasas defeated Granada Hills, 61-41. Cameron Glassen scored 17 points and Conner Longmire 12.

Oak Park defeated Rio Mesa, 63-39. Freshman Riley Battin had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Canyon defeated Newbury Park, 68-44. Ben Taufahema had 24 points.

In the University tournament, Windward received 20 points from Eli Silverman-Lloyd in an 82-57 win over St. Bernard. Jalen Harris added 18 points and freshman Jules Bernard had 18 points and eight rebounds. St. Monica defeated North Hollywood, 69-58. Dwight Murray had 22 points in University’s 63-56 win over El Segundo.

Campbell Hall defeated Malibu, 85-54. Gabriel Salzar and Jordan Cohen each scored 18 points.

South Gate defeated San Pedro, 68-58. Cameron Ybarra scored 23 points and freshman David Mix added 22 in an Artesia tournament victory.

In the Valley Christian tournament, Flintridge Prep defeated Norwalk, 43-31. Dante Fregoso and Andrew Tsanges each scored 13 points.
