Football: Mater Dei is seeking a second victory over Corona Centennial

Share

Mater Dei has already beaten one team twice this season _ Westlake. But the Monarchs are facing a much more difficult challenge on Friday _ defeating Corona Centennial for a second time at Santa Ana Stadium.

Way back on Aug. 30, the Monarchs won, 38-18, at Mission Viejo High. Mater Dei never looked so good and Centennial never looked so bad.

“We had a lot of emotion in game one,” Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson said. “I think we surprised them and kind of surprised ourselves.”

Both teams are better. Centennial, which was playing two new quarterbacks, has improved most notably on offense.

“They have the machine rolling, and it is very impressive to watch on film,” Rollinson said. “Their big-play ability is something to behold. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out we have to stay ahead of the chains, move the football and keep them off the field. I look for a very good high school football game.”
