Football: Narbonne keeps coming close against top teams

Share

In the last two weeks, Narbonne has given scares to Long Beach Poly and Alemany, ranked No. 3 and No. 5 by The Times, only to lose after making too many mistakes in the second half.

“When you play good teams, it exposes you,” Coach Manuel Douglas said. “We’ve got things to fix.”

Teams had better enjoy their brief success against the Gauchos, because with 10 underclassmen starting on offense, the future looks very bright.

In particular, junior running back Sean Riley is emerging as one of the best from the City Section.

He rushed for 132 yards in a 51-30 loss to Alemany.

“Their running back is the real deal,” Alemany Coach Dean Herrington said. “He’s quick and athletic.”

Things don’t get any easier next week for Narbonne (1-2), which plays at Gardena Serra.
