Share

Redlands East Valley put on an offensive show on Saturday night in its first-ever CIF state championship bowl game and came away with a 59-42 win over Bakersfield Ridgeview in the Southern California Division II regional.

The Wildcats (14-1), the Inland Division champions, will play Concord Clayton Valley on Saturday at 4 p.m. at StubHub Center in the Division II final.

Sophomore quarterback Armando Herrera hung tough, passing for 318 yards while getting the ball to his playmakers, and Coach Kurt Bruich has his team one win away from a Division II title. The power running of Taimon Faimalo (three touchdowns) and an 88-yard screen pass for a touchdown by Malik Lovette were among Saturday’s highlights. Then there was Joey Harman, who had a 97-yard kickoff return and ran for two more scores.
