It’s not quite like Kobe Bryant’s farewell tour, where gifts are presented and even the visiting crowd starts chanting, “Ko-be, Ko-be, Ko-be.”

But retiring Edison Coach Dave White is certainly receiving plenty of kudos from opposing coaches. His team is 4-0 and next up is top-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei on Friday at Orange Coast College.

Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson has been facing White since the 1980s.

“I’ve been on the record for 28 years that you can line up X number of coaches, and I’d put Dave White in the top one or two coaches I respect and admire for the product he produces,” Rollinson said. “He’s the consumate in professionalism and have a huge respect for Dave.”

Edison-Mater Dei games are always interesting.

“Both teams will be very emotional and very physical,” Rollinson said. “It’s a fun game because all the kids know each other.”
