Second baseman Rougned Odor of the Texas Rangers is having a hearing Tuesday to appeal an eight-game suspension for punching Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, it was announced Sunday.

The appeal will be heard by John McHale, MLB executive vice president. If it is upheld, Odor would have to begin serving the suspension immediately.

The league disciplined 14 players and staff for their actions in a fight May 15 at Arlington, Texas. Odor punched Bautista in the jaw in the top of the eighth inning after Bautista made a hard takeout slide at second base on Odor, which started a bench-clearing brawl.

A day after Toronto’s Josh Donaldson was ejected by umpire Toby Basner in the first inning, Gibbons was ejected by Joe West in the fifth.

Donaldson hit a home run in the first inning Sunday and stared at the Twins dugout as he crossed the plate. Minnesota starter Phil Hughes threw two pitches to Donaldson in the fifth, one inside and one behind him. Donaldson expressed his displeasure to plate umpire Mark Ripperger.

Gibbons argued with Ripperger and West and was ejected.

Toronto starter Marcus Stroman hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch in the bottom of the inning.
