Blake Griffin has his dunks under wraps

Reporting from Orlando, Fla. — Project Howard, meet Project Griffin.

The Clippers’ Blake Griffin looked almost amused when it was brought up that the Magic’s Dwight Howard recently said that he had five dunks nobody had ever seen.

Howard won the NBA All-Star dunk contest in 2008, but he is not competing this year.

“That’s what I heard,” Griffin said. “I’ll have to ask him about it.”

Griffin has his own dunk weapons in storage: three of them. His dunk project is under tight wraps as he readies to compete in the contest at Staples Center on Feb. 19 during All-Star weekend.

“I’ve got about three that I can do,” he said. “But some of them are more difficult than others. For the contest, and all that, I’ll probably pick the ones I can do the most consistently that are the hardest. DJ [DeAndre Jordan] has seen one of them.

“And a couple of my friends have seen the others.”

Gordon update

Eric Gordon, out because of a sprained right wrist and a small bone fracture, made his rounds to see doctors back home in Los Angeles.

The big news: No news.

His status remained unchanged, the Clippers said, and no return date has been made.

Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro wasn’t sure whether Gordon would rejoin the team on this marathon trip. Indications are that he probably will stay back and continue to rehabilitate the wrist.
