College basketball roundup: No. 8 Gonzaga remains unbeaten
Nigel Williams-Goss scored 20 points, and No. 8 Gonzaga remained undefeated by holding off Tennessee, 86-76, on Sunday.
Gonzaga (11-0) hadn’t played since Dec. 10 and looked strong as the Bulldogs scored the first eight points and never trailed. They led, 27-6, on a jumper by Zach Collins with 12:06 left, 43-29 at halftime and 64-48 midway through the second half.
Tennessee (6-5) went on a 10-3 run and got within 75-71 on a jumper by Robert Hubbs III with 2:26 left.
Josh Perkins then hit a jumper as Gonzaga held on for its fourth straight win in the five games between these teams.
No. 4 Baylor 107, John Brown 53: Johnathan Motley had 20 points and nine rebounds in the Bears’ victory over the overmatched NAIA Golden Eagles.
Baylor (11-0) shot 59% from the floor despite missing its first five shots, dominated on the boards by a 51-15 margin and forced 18 turnovers that turned into 19 points on the other end.
Al Freeman added 16 points for the Bears, Jo Lual-Acuil and Wendell Mitchell had 11 apiece, and Terry Maston finished with 10.
SOUTHLAND
MEN
at Omaha 102, Cal State Fullerton 96 (OT): Tra-Deon Hollins scored 20 points, including two free throws that sent the game to overtime, to lead the Mavericks (7-5). Lionheart Leslie scored 23 points for the Titans (5-6).
WOMEN
at No. 6 South Carolina 66, No. 9 UCLA 57: Monique Billings had a career-high 22 rebounds to go with 12 points for the Bruins (8-2), who gave up a 17-3 run to the Gamecocks (9-1) to start the third quarter.
No. 5 Mississippi State 76, at USC 72: Victoria Vivians scored 19 points and Morgan William had 18 to lead the Bulldogs, who are 12-0 for the third time in school history. Sadie Edwards scored 24 points for the Trojans (8-2).
