Washington Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said outside linebacker Junior Galette will miss the entire season after tearing his left Achilles’ tendon.

Gruden discussed Galette’s status on Thursday, a day after the pass rusher was injured toward the end of practice. Gruden said Galette is scheduled to have surgery Friday.

Galette had missed Washington’s first two exhibition games as he worked his way back from an injury to a chest muscle.

He is the fifth Redskins player lost to a season-ending injury in the preseason, including tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen.

Meanwhile, Redskins said an independent neurologist has cleared quarterback Robert Griffin III to play in the team’s exhibition against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

Griffin was hurt in a preseason game Aug. 20 against the Detroit Lions. It was widely suspected he suffered a concussion in that game, but Griffin evaded answering questions about that on Thursday.

Packers’ Guion suspended

The NFL suspended Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion without pay for the first three games of the regular season on Thursday, saying the eighth-year pro violated the league’s policy on substance abuse.

The 28-year-old Guion was arrested near his home in Florida in early February on felony charges of drug and firearm possession. A traffic stop turned up three-quarters of a pound of marijuana, a handgun and a bag containing more than $190,000 in cash.

Pittsburgh’s Bryant faces suspension

Already faced with playing without running back Le’Veon Bell for the first two games of the regular season, the Steelers were dealt another big setback when wide receiver Martavis Bryant was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s drug policy. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirmed the suspension, first reported by Fox Sports.

Bryant, a fourth-round draft choice in 2014, caught eight touchdowns and averaged 21.1 yards per catch in 10 games last season.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been banished from the San Francisco 49ers after being charged with misdemeanor sexual battery.

The team sent him home Thursday morning from Colorado, where the 49ers are holding joint practices with the Broncos before playing an exhibition against Denver on Saturday night.

General Manager Trent Baalke said he wasn’t sure how long the expulsion will last or whether it would be permanent.

Johnny Manziel’s preseason is over, sacked by a stinging elbow. Cleveland Browns Coach Mike Pettine said that Manziel, who has made strides in his second year in the NFL after a rough rookie season, will not play in Cleveland’s last two exhibition games because of lingering soreness in his right elbow. The injury has bothered him for two weeks and is more serious than initially thought.

Safety Will Hill has signed a two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

The 25-year-old Hill is entering his first full season with Baltimore after starting the final eight games of 2014. He had 42 tackles, an interception and broke up four passes in 10 games.

Hill was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2015.

The New York Jets have signed quarterback Josh Johnson, adding another veteran to the mix. To make room on the roster, New York waived undrafted rookie quarterback Jake Heaps.

Atlanta Falcons team President Rich McKay has been reinstated as chairman of the NFL’s powerful Competition Committee, the league said Thursday, after a nearly five-month suspension for the use of artificial noise at the Georgia Dome during games.
