Mike Trout will sit out his second straight Freeway Series game Friday night because of a stomach virus, but the Angels center fielder felt well enough to travel to Dodger Stadium, suit up and take batting practice before the game.

Trout, who is batting .388 (19 for 49) with four home runs and a team-high 15 runs batted in this spring, said he will play Saturday night against the Dodgers in Angel Stadium. He has no doubt that he’ll be ready for Monday night’s season opener against the Chicago Cubs.

“I’m better now,” Trout said. “The last couple of days have been a little shaky. My body has been aching, I’m not feeling well, I haven’t eaten much, and I’ve lost some weight. I’m trying to get my appetite back.

“I had to come out here and get my body moving. I was laid up for two or three days. I wanted to get out of the house. It’s good to be out here with the guys.”

Left fielder Daniel Nava, who is batting .462 (18 for 39) with two homers and 10 RBIs this spring, will also sit out his second straight game because of a left-knee injury that flared up earlier in the week. He is not sure how much he’ll play this weekend, but he expects to be ready for Monday night’s opener.

Nava played the final month of last season for Tampa Bay with a patellar tendon injury that was not serious enough to warrant surgery. But Nava did receive a platelet-rich plasma injection over the winter.

“I could totally go today, but the training staff, the coaching staff, wanted to give me an extra day or two,” Nava said. “We don’t want what happened last year to happen this year, so we’re taking a proactively cautious approach.”
