Watch Rapids goalie mistime catch, giving up easy goal [Video]
Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Steward Ceus made the MLS highlights Saturday night for all the wrong reasons.
Ceus and the Rapids were on the road in a season-opening game against FC Dallas when only 10 minutes into the game he made a decision to come off the goal line to track down a deep pass toward Colorado’s 18-yard box.
Now, we’ve all seen players -- from baseball to basketball -- whiff on catching a grounder or collecting a pass. It’s not pretty and sometimes it leads to a score for the opposition.
In Cues’ case, it led to a cheap goal for FC Dallas as you can see in the video above.
Ceus, playing in place of injured starter Matt Pickens, had come so far off his line that as he was about to catch the bouncing ball, he realized he had stepped outside the box and it would be an illegal touch, giving him a red-card exit and Dallas a free kick.
He let the ball bounce over his head into the box, where Dallas’ Jackson Goncalves collected the ball and put away a point-blank shot. It would prove to be the only goal in the game.
