Beholder won’t run in Breeders’ Cup Distaff because of fever
After Wise Dan, a two-time horse of the year, was declared out because of an injury last week, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships saw another defection Sunday when it was announced that two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder won’t be able to run because of a fever.
Beholder was scheduled to run in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
“She had a little bit of a temperature this morning and it got higher [104], so we had to treat it,” trainer Richard Mandella said. “We hope she doesn’t get sicker, but she won’t run in the Distaff.”
The Breeders’ Cup is set for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.
The 4-year-old Beholder was the champion 2-year-old filly and champion 3-year-old filly.
