Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane reportedly under police investigation in New York

Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is the subject of an unspecified police investigation in his upstate New York hometown, according to the Buffalo News.

The newspaper said the 26-year-old winger is under investigation in Hamburg, where he lives in the offseason. It cited two anonymous sources and did not disclose the nature of the allegation against Kane. It was unclear if Kane had been interviewed by law enforcement as part of the probe, the paper said.

Hamburg police Chief Gregory Wickett declined to confirm or deny the investigation to the Tribune.

Attorney Paul Cambria, who represented Kane in a previous legal matter, told the Tribune on Wednesday that no arrests had been made in the case.

Messages left by the Tribune for Kane’s agent and the Blackhawks were not returned.

The investigation comes as Kane has been praised for his off-ice maturity following a turbulent introduction to stardom.

Though criminal charges against him were dropped, Kane pleaded guilty to the noncriminal violation of disorderly conduct in August 2009 after he was arrested in connection with a dispute with a Buffalo cabdriver.

A judge ordered him to send an apology to the driver, who accused Kane and his cousin of assault and stealing a fare. Kane also had to pay $125 in court costs and was ordered to stay out of trouble for a year under a “conditional” discharge.

Kane again found himself in the spotlight in May 2012 when pictures surfaced of him celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Madison, Wis. A Madison Police Department representative told the Tribune then that Kane was involved in an altercation outside a bar but left when an officer told him to move on. He was not arrested.

After the Blackhawks won their third Stanley Cup in six seasons in June, Kane made a playful reference to his past behavior when he addressed fans at the championship rally.

“I know you said I’ve been growing up, but watch out for me the next week,” Kane said.
