The 6-foot-8 Griner announced she was gay in April 2013, shortly after finishing a stellar career at Baylor. At the time of her announcement, Griner told Sports Illustrated that going public with her sexuality was something she had to do.
"It really wasn't too difficult," she said. "I wouldn't say I was hiding or anything like that. I've always been open about who I am and my sexuality. So, it wasn't hard at all. Griner is averaging 15.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game for the Mercury, which has an WNBA-best 27-5 record.
Johnson, in her third season with the Shock following a collegiate career at Tennessee, is averaging 15 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
