AFL player Chandler Williams dies while playing flag football

Arena Football League player Chandler Williams, a seventh-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007 who also was a member of the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs, died Sunday. He was 27.

According to the AFL, Williams died while playing in a flag football tournament in South Florida. No cause of death has been released yet.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Chandler,” Tampa Bay Storm team president Derrick Brooks said. “Our heart and prayers go out to his fiancée Vanitia Harrigan, daughter Tori Williams and the rest of his family.”

Williams caught 83 passes for 996 yards and 17 touchdowns and led the AFL with a 23-yard kickoff return average last season.
