If Kings win the Stanley Cup, you might hear Bob Miller call it

The Kings have spoken. Rest easy, Kings fans. If the Kings reach a Stanley Cup-clinching game, they are trying to find a way for you to be able to hear Bob Miller call it. Just not live.

Miller and color man Jim Fox will record the game, which will be available at a later date for Kings fans to listen to.

This comes in response to an outcry from Kings fans online who wanted to hear the legendary announcer count down the seconds should the Kings win the Cup. Many ideas were floated.

Mike Altieri, the Kings’ vice president of broadcasting and communications, said the club was aware of fans’ sentiments but its options are limited because the NHL owns the broadcast rights to Stanley Cup Final games.

He said Miller, out of respect for radio play-by-play announcer Nick Nickson, would not ask Nickson to step aside at that moment. Nor will the Kings ask Nickson to yield the microphone.

“The Kings have been working with the NHL to create an opportunity for Bob and Jim to call the game and have their call recorded so that it can be heard at a later date,” Altieri said.

That would probably mean a recording that would be available for fans to hear on the team’s website.
