Greg Moore has been hired as baseball coach at Cal State Northridge, Athletic Director Brandon Martin announced.

Moore was associate head coach at the University of San Francisco the last three seasons.

“I want to bring a passion to improve every day, on and off the field,” Moore said in a statement. “I want to make the San Fernando Valley proud of its baseball team.”

Moore replaces Matt Curtis, whose contract was not renewed. Curtis was 77-89 in three seasons, including 31-26 this season.

“Greg’s character, relentless work ethic and strong baseball acumen set him apart from a competitive pool of candidates,” Martin said in a statement. “Given Greg’s reputation for skill development, I’m confident he will maximize the talent we currently have in [our] program, particularly with our pitching core.”

Moore coached at San Francisco for eight seasons before leaving to become pitching coach at Washington during the 2009-10 season. He returned to USF the following season and oversaw pitching, admissions, community service and summer placement.

According to Northridge’s news release, at USF Moore coached three first-round draft picks and eight players taken in the first 10 rounds of Major League Baseball draft. Of the eight players, only one had been drafted out of high school and three were walk-ons.
