Eagles Coach Chip Kelly says QB Tim Tebow has skills others lack

Eagles Coach Chip Kelly has gone about his business much like a mad scientist, and you have to wonder if bringing failed quarterback Tim Tebow into training camp this summer will prove to be a botched experiment.

Kelly is the coach who traded All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy to Buffalo and quarterback Nick Foles to St. Louis while not re-signing starting wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who is now with Kansas City.

History says Tebow will be a bust, but Kelly told reporters on Thursday that Tebow is going to be given the same repetitions as presumed starter Sam Bradford and reserves such as Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley.

“Tim has a lot of skills that a lot of other quarterbacks don’t have because of his ability to run the football,” Kelly said. “But we haven’t delved into any of that. Right now, we’re just competing, getting reps.”

Tebow already has worked out with the top two offensive units in camp, Kelly said.

“I’ve seen Tim with the twos and the ones. We’re just rolling guys, but we haven’t spent any time as an offensive staff looking at, ‘Hey, how do we do this or what can we do in terms of working out how the final roster is going to express itself.’ ”
