UCLA will likely have running back Jordon James available for Saturday’s game against Arizona State.
James, who was the nation’s fifth-leading rusher when he injured an ankle in the fourth game, went through a full week of practice.
“Last week when he was going to his left trying to catch a screen pass, he couldn’t put his right foot in the ground and burst off it,” Coach Jim Mora said. “This week, I haven’t seen him limp or favor it at all.”
James has 481 yards rushing this season, 424 came in the first three games, before being injured against Utah on Oct. 3. He missed three games, then reinjured the ankle against Colorado. He has not played the last two games.
“I probably made a mistake by letting him play against Colorado, that’s on me,” Mora said. “He wanted to play, but sometimes a coach’s job is to protect a player from himself.”
Running back Malcolm Jones, who took a hit to the head last week against Washington, has been cleared to play. Tackle Simon Goines (knee) is expected to play.
Receiver Devin Fuller, who has an undisclosed injury, will be a game-time decision. He leads the team with 40 receptions for 453 yards and has caught four touchdowns.
