USC football: Dion Bailey preparing to play against Oregon State

Share

Dion Bailey has intercepted two passes this season for USC, so the Trojans hope the junior safety is available to play Friday night against pass-happy Oregon State.

Last week, Bailey was sidelined for the first half against Utah because of shoulder and hip injuries. He suited up at halftime and played the final two quarters after safety Su’a Cravens suffered a groin injury.

After the game, Bailey said he received an injection of a painkiller before playing.

Asked whether he would require another injection to play Friday, he said, “Hopefully not. My parents don’t really like me doing that, so, hopefully, I heal naturally throughout this week and I’m as close to 100% as I need to be for me to play without it.”

Freshman Leon McQuay III started at nickel back in place of Bailey against Utah. The freshman intercepted a pass in the first half, then moved to safety when Bailey entered the game in the third quarter.

The Trojans, who have intercepted 10 passes, face major college football’s most productive passing attack Friday. Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion has passed for 30 touchdowns, with only three interceptions.
