What time does the College Football Playoff championship game start?

The College Football Playoff championship game between No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama will kick off Monday at 5:30 p.m. PST at University of Phoenix Stadium.

The game will be televised by ESPN.

This is the second year of the College Football Playoff. Ohio State won the title last season.

Clemson (14-0), the Atlantic Coast Conference champion, is seeking its first national title since 1981. The Tigers advanced to the title game by defeating Oklahoma, 37-17, in the Orange Bowl.

Clemson is trying to become the first Football Bowl Subdivision team to win 15 games in a season.

Alabama (13-1), the Southeastern Conference champion, is going for its fourth national title in seven seasons.

Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban is seeking his fifth national championship. He won the Bowl Championship Series title at Louisiana State in the 2003 season.
