Matt Leinart won the Heisman Trophy and led USC to two national titles. He's a proud Trojan.
But this week on Fox Sports 1, the former team captain called the Josh Shaw situation "embarrassing."
Shaw's fabricated story and the school's decision to publish it created controversies around a program finally free of NCAA sanctions and the self-created distractions of Lane Kiffin.
USC just came off a really, really bad few years," said Leinart, who noted that the program had in 2014 "flown under the radar."
And now this happens," he said, adding, "it's embarrassing."
The Trojans open the season Saturday against Fresno State.
