“Tonight we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest. Sorry, brightest,” quipped host Neil Patrick Harris in his opening remarks onstage at the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday night. Harris was poking fun at a perceived lack of diversity surrounding this year’s Oscars, where minority nominees were absent from all four acting categories.
