Prep HIGHLIGHTS : Birmingham Easily Wins City Golf Championship

Gary Davidson of Birmingham High shot a two-day total of 154 to lead his team to the City 4-A Golf Championship on Tuesday at Griffith Park.

Davidson and teammates Craig Miller and Mike Dellacort were all named to the All-City first team. Miller shot a 166 in the 36-hole tournament that started Monday. Dellacort shot a 174.

Birmingham posted a team score of 852. Second-place Kennedy was at 909. Kennedy’s Bobby Burns shot a 161, one of the tournament’s top marks. Eight strokes behind Kennedy was third-place Monroe with 917.

BASEBALL

Camarillo 8, Thousand Oaks 3

Charlie Fiacco pitched a three-hitter and had four runs batted in, including a bases-loaded double that drove in three runs, as Camarillo took first place in the 4-A Marmonte League with an 8-3 victory over Thousand Oaks at Thousand Oaks.

Fiacco (6-0, 4-0) gave up only three runs and three hits. In the third inning, he started the Scorpions scoring with a sacrifice fly. In the sixth inning, he doubled to drive in three runs and secure Camarillo’s lead.

Thousand Oaks scored one in the first inning and two in the fifth to take the early lead. Chris Lillick’s two-run home run for Camarillo in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the score, 3-3.

But it was Scott Cline’s fifth-inning solo home run, however, that gave the Scorpions their winning edge--and the league championship. The Lancers (7-5) finished third in the league.

Camarillo (10-2) will begin the first round of Southern Section playoffs 3 p.m. May 17 at Camarillo.

Simi Valley 13, Newbury Park 1

Simi Valley’s Shaun Murphy hit a grand slam in a seven-run second inning to lead his team to an easy victory over Newbury Park, 13-1, to take second place in the 4-A Marmonte League.

Murphy was 3 for 3, with six RBIs. He has broken five school records this season: at-bats (95), runs scored (40), hits (44), RBIs (44) and triples (6).

Teammate Duane Mulville also went 3 for 3, scoring three runs and driving in one.

While Murphy launched the offense, winning pitcher Sean Harrigan (11-3) made short work of the Panthers’ batters. Harrigan allowed three hits and had seven strikeouts before being relieved in the fifth inning by Scott Radinsky. Radinsky struck out seven of the nine batters he faced.

Simi Valley (23-4, 9-3) will advance to the Southern Section playoffs.
