Southern Section Tennis : CdM Falls to Palos Verdes in Semifinals
Stella Sampras of Palos Verdes High School swept her three singles sets Thursday to lead the Sea Kings’ tennis team to an 11-7 victory over Corona del Mar in the Southern Section 4-A semifinals at Palos Verdes High.
Sampras, her team’s No. 1 singles player, was trailing Danielle Scott, 4-1, in the first set but came back to win, 7-5. She then went on to defeat Robin Bain, 6-0, and Kristi Phebus, 6-4. Those were the only losses of the day for Scott and Phebus, who each won two singles sets.
Palos Verdes’ No. 1 doubles team of Heather Vitro and Kristen Hobel also won three sets, by the scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. The Sea Kings will play Miraleste Tuesday at the West End Tennis and Racquet Club for the 4-A championship.
Corona del Mar, seeded second in the 4-A division, closes the season with an 18-4 record, its only losses coming to top-seeded Miraleste (twice) and Palos Verdes (twice). Palos Verdes beat Corona del Mar, 10-8, on Sept. 23.

Chaminade 14, Valencia 4--The top-seeded Eagles, champions of the San Fernando Valley League, defeated the fourth-seeded Tigers at Valencia High School to advance to Tuesday’s championship match against Indio.
