Golf Roundup : Tewell Has Share of Japan Lead
American Doug Tewell, Australian Graham Marsh and Japan’s Tsuneyuki Nakajima and Kikuo Arai each shot a five-under-par 67 Thursday to share the opening-round lead in the $812,500 Dunlop Phoenix golf tournament at Miyazaki, Japan.
Australia’s Peter Senior set a course record with an eight-under-par 64 to take a three-stroke first-round lead in the West Australian Open at Perth.
Taiwan’s Kuo Chi-hsiung shot a one-under-par 71 for a one-stroke lead in the first round of the $300,000 Chiang Kai-shek Centennial tournament at Taipei, Taiwan.
Arnold Palmer shot a 75 and was tied for ninth place with seven others, including West Germany’s Bernhard Langer.
