POP/ROCK - Oct. 13, 1987
Police rescued rock promoter Marvin Adams from some enraged rap fans in Bakersfield over the weekend when he became the proverbial bearer of bad news. The trouble started Sunday night when Adams, 34, tried to depart after announcing that the Fat Boys rap group had canceled its concert at the Kern County Fairgrounds. About 30 fans dragged Adams out of his Mercedes as he attempted to drive away from the fairgrounds. Kern County sheriff’s deputies said Adams was beaten and robbed before the crowd overturned his car. Several people were arrested in the ensuing rock- and bottle-throwing melee. Adams was treated for injuries suffered in the beating at a local hospital and was later released.
