Local News in Brief : Council to Meet in Desert
The Los Angeles City Council, which usually meets every Friday in the council chambers, is meeting today at La Quinta Hotel in the Palm Springs area--but with an informal, unofficial agenda.
Twelve council members are scheduled to attend the annual autumn retreat sponsored by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Under the Brown Act, which prohibits secret meetings, the session will be open to the public, said chamber spokeswoman Kathy Shilkret.
Growth issues--transportation, air quality, sewer and water--are the scheduled topics for discussions between council members and the chamber directors.
The retreat is one of two annual meetings the chamber holds with the region’s governing panels. A summer retreat is held each year with county supervisors.
