Cryer, Doggett to Be Honored at Hall Banquet
Lew Cryer and Jerry Doggett will be among those honored Feb. 15 by the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame at its annual induction banquet at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
Cryer, departing commissioner of the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn., and Doggett, who retired last fall after 30 years as an announcer with the Dodgers, will be presented Special Achievement Awards.
They will share the spotlight at induction ceremonies for former baseball greats Rod Carew (Minnesota Twins, Angels) and Andy Messersmith (Angels, Dodgers), Huntington Beach High School track sensation Eddie Morris and women’s softball legend Carol Spanks.
Fullerton’s Louie Unser, oldest brother of the famed auto racing family, will receive the Woody Deitch Award, given to a sports figure who has shown exceptional courage in overcoming adversity.
Good Guy Awards will be presented to publicist-administrator Irv Kaze (Angels, now with the Raiders) and Saddleback Inn owner Bruce Gelker.
TV sportscaster Ed Arnold will be the master of ceremonies at the banquet, which benefits county youth groups by providing athletic equipment.
Ticket information is available from the Hall of Fame offices--832-1113.
