Westminster : Earthquake-Damaged DMV Office to Reopen

Share

The Department of Motor Vehicles office, which was forced to close for repairs because of damage from an earthquake, will reopen Monday, a DMV spokesman said in Sacramento.

The building suffered minor structural damage, which included asbestos-filled ceiling tiles being knocked loose during the Oct. 1 earthquake that registered 5.9 on the Richter scale and caused widespread damage in Southern California.

The DMV closed the office Oct. 19 for repairs after asbestos particles were found in the air and structural damage was detected, according to William Gengler, a DMV spokesman.

Gengler said DMV offices in Bellflower, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Long Beach and Santa Ana have been staying open two more hours a day to handle motorists who would normally have used the Westminster office at 13700 Hoover St.

Normal hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
