At least 18 people were injured on the San Mateo-Hayward bridge late Tuesday night, Hayward fire officials reported. There were at least two serious injuries, said dispatcher Michael Doty. Doty said it appeared that “one of the buses crashed into the other and neither overturned.” Ambulances were rushed to the scene about 20 miles south of San Francisco. The collision occurred about one mile west of the toll plaza on California 92. The bridge is 9.5 miles long and for much of its distance it rises only several feet above San Francisco Bay.
