Frank Horton, president of the University of Oklahoma, said the school has received a letter of official inquiry from the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. concerning alleged rules violations in the Sooner football program.

Horton would not comment on details of the investigation.

“Although we consider any alleged violation of NCAA rules to be a serious matter, we are hopeful that the matters raised in this inquiry can be resolved without a substantial impact on the university’s football program,” he said in a prepared statement.

Oklahoma was on NCAA probation during the 1973 and 1974 seasons because of recruiting violations.
