Crespi 16, South Torrance 6--Crespi pitcher Chad Nichols helped himself at the plate with two hits and five RBIs in the Redondo-Palos Verdes consolation-bracket game.

Nichols, who started on the mound, rapped a bases-loaded single that scored three in the third then drove home two more with a single in the fourth. He also scored two runs.

Ken Franco and Greg Scuderi both doubled as five players each had two hits for Crespi (8-9).

Dan Carroll pitched the final three innings and gave up three hits but didn’t allow a run in picking up the win.

Gahr 2, Notre Dame 1--Notre Dame’s Kevin Crosby, representing the tying run, was thrown out at home to end the championship quarterfinal game.

Crosby was trying to score from second on a ground ball by Matt McElreath.

McElreath doubled in Chad Ratliff in the first inning for Notre Dame’s only run, but Gahr countered with two runs in the bottom of the second.

Tony Ljubetic went 2 for 3 for Notre Dame (11-6).

Thousand Oaks 7, Downey 3--Mike Yanuzzi hit a run-scoring single to pace a three-run rally in the second for Thousand Oaks in the championship-bracket third-round game.

With the score tied, 1-1, Yanuzzi singled to snap the tie before the Lancers added two more runs when Yanuzzi and Anthony Gonzales both scored on passed balls.

Dan Chergey and Tom Brozowski homered as Thousand Oaks improved to 10-6-1.

Leuzinger 7, Taft 6--Taft blew a four-run lead in the seventh inning of the championship quarterfinal game.

Taft (7-6) mustered just one hit--a fifth-inning solo homer by Glenn Nahmias--but capitalized on six errors to score five unearned runs, including two in the seventh that gave Taft a 6-2 lead.

But Leuzinger rallied with five runs off Chris Brown (1-3) in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

Scott Tiano started for Taft and went 5 innings, allowing four hits and two runs, both earned.

Palos Verdes 11, Royal 3--Palos Verdes racked up 10 hits and 11 walks off three Royal pitchers in the consolation bracket third-round game at Palos Verdes.

Royal (9-10) also committed five errors.
