Five people were arrested on suspicion of making and selling counterfeit audio cassette tapes during raids Thursday at nine locations in three counties, including sites in Costa Mesa and Westminster.

Several Southland police agencies were involved in the raids in Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Van Mosley said.

Investigators Thursday night were still counting the tapes and duplicating machines that were seized in the sweep, but the total is expected to top an Aug. 9 raid of a Monrovia counterfeit ring, in which 150,000 tapes and 29 duplicating machines were confiscated, Mosley said.
