Mt. Carmel 8, Fallbrook 3--Mark VanAelstyn led the Sundevils by driving in four runs with a single and a homer.
Poway 4, Orange Glen 1--John Uglow lost a shutout bid with two out in the seventh. He struck out three and walked one for his second victory. Poway’s Greg Sorrell hit two doubles, and Brock Marsh went three for three; both players drove in two runs.
Metro Conference
Southwest 5, Castle Park 3--Tony Dela Torre was two for three with a double for Southwest.
Marian 4, Hilltop 1--Frank Castro (1-0) struck out five and scattered five hits for his first victory for Marian. Sophomore Beto Martinez hit his first home run, a two-run shot.
Coronado 4, Bonita Vista 3--With the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the seventh, Rich Bledsoe hit a ground ball to short that scored Sean Webb, giving the Islanders’ a come-from-behind victory.
Mar Vista 4, Sweetwater 2--Jose Galaz went two for three and scored a run to lead visiting Mar Vista. Tim O’ Neal went the distance for the victory.
Avocado League
San Marcos 5, San Pasqual 4--Brian Tidd delivered a run-scoring double in the sixth to tie the game, then scored on an error to give the Knights the victory. Toby Lehman was two for two with an RBI.
Carlsbad 11, Rancho Buena Vista 1--Scott Karl (2-0) went the distance for visiting Carlsbad, striking out 12. Bryan Black was three for four with six RBIs and Jeff Myers hit a sixth-inning home run to lead Carlsbad at the plate.
Ramona 8, El Camino 3--Ramona (9-7, 4-4) scored five runs in the fifth inning to break up a 3-3 tie at El Camino (4-16, 0-8). Frank Thomas had a two-run triple in the inning.
Oceanside 6, Escondido 4--Sophomore Saul Gutierrez went the distance and was three for four at the plate for visiting Oceanside. Kenya Hunt was three for four with two RBIs, and Sibian Fumano was three for three with one RBI.
Softball
Vista 3, San Dieguito 2--Vista pitcher Kelli Schott pitched a perfect game through six, striking out 18 consecutive batters. She walked the leadoff batter and allowed a single in the seventh.
Madison 3, Serra 0--Jennifer Booker threw a no-hitter and struck out 14 for Madison.
El Camino 4, Ramona 0--Shannon Downey pitched a no-hitter to lead El Camino.
