Softball Roundup : Smith Pitches Her Fourth No-Hitter of Season for Garden Grove

Stephanie Smith pitched her fourth no-hitter of the season as Garden Grove High School defeated Pacifica, 2-0, Thursday in a Garden Grove League softball game at Pacifica.

Smith (15-7) struck out seven and walked one. Michelle Cash had a double and scored in the first inning for Garden Grove.

In other Garden Grove League games:

La Quinta 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Bobbi Cloyd pitched three innings in relief for the victory at Bolsa Grande. Cloyd (9-5) allowed only two hits and struck out one. The Aztecs (14-7, 6-4) scored three runs in the seventh, as Cloyd, Jill Bishop and Carly Norton had RBI singles.

Los Amigos 20, Rancho Alamitos 2 (5 innings)--Los Amigos’ Talle Bardwell had a no-hitter when the game was called. Bardwell had nine strikeouts. Tiffany Stanbridge and Nicole Leen each had three hits for Los Amigos (6-6 in league play). Rancho Alamitos is 0-12 in league play.

Kennedy 4, Santiago 0--Cheryl Longeway (14-3) pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight, for the Fighting Irish (15-4, 9-1) at Kennedy. Robyn Caires had the only hit for Santiago with a single to left field to lead off the game. Kris Vucurevic had two hits and an RBI and Danelle McLeod had a solo home run for Kennedy.

In the Angelus League:

Bishop Montgomery 2, Rosary 0--Janice Stadel had a triple, one of two hits for host Rosary. Bishop Montgomery is 7-8, 1-6; Rosary is 8-10, 2-5.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 13, Santa Ana Valley 1 (5 innings)--Anne Salzman went three for four with an RBI and two runs scored to lead Villa Park at home. Chris Redman (10-5) picked up the victory, going four innings, striking out six and giving up one hit and two walks. Villa Park is 13-10, 6-0; Santa Ana Valley is 0-6 in league play.

Canyon 7, El Modena 0--Canyon had a five-run third inning, keyed by a two-run single by Maureen Delmazzio, at El Modena. Delmazzio was two for three with three RBIs for Canyon (14-8, 5-1). Kristin Heizer (9-6) pitched a three-hitter for Canyon. El Modena is 5-14, 2-4.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 2, Esperanza 1--Keri Lucas was two for three and pitched a two-hitter for host El Dorado (15-4, 5-1). Lucas (15-4) also had three strikeouts for the Golden Hawks. Melissa Jantz went two for three for El Dorado. Esperanza falls to 5-12, 1-5.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 7, Troy 0--Cathleen Kennedy (6-9) pitched a two-hitter, striking out three, for Fullerton (8-12, 2-4) at Troy. Benna Kennedy had two hits and two RBIs.

Sunny Hills 1, La Habra 0--Amy Huett pitched a no-hitter for host Sunny Hills (14-6, 4-2). Huett had seven strikeouts and walked only one. La Habra is 4-2 in league play.

Buena Park 4, Sonora 2 (12 innings)--Denise Wyman’s two-run homer with two outs in the top of the 12th gave Buena Park (12-3, 5-1) the victory.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 3, Whitney 0--Veronica Martinez pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven, for Whittier Christian (7-6, 6-3) at Whitney. Martinez (7-5) allowed only a fourth-inning single. Kim Rhan had all three RBIs for Whittier Christian.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 15, Laguna Beach 0 (5 innings)--Shelley Carey and Shelby Kowalcyk both hit three-run homers for Laguna Hills (15-6, 4-2) at Laguna Beach. Carey and Kowalcyk each had four RBIs. Margo Melendrez (11-5) pitched a two-hitter, striking out five, for Laguna Hills.

Woodbridge 11, Costa Mesa 0 (6 innings)--Alisha Nelson pitched a no-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing one walk for host Woodbridge. She also went two for four as Woodbridge (13-7, 6-0) had 10 hits. Lisa Wehren, Kristen Gove and Tami Williams had two hits apiece for the Warriors. Costa Mesa is 0-6 in league play.

Trabuco Hills 4, Orange 1--At Trabuco Hills, Linda Lunceford (6-2) pitched a three-hitter and got three hits for Trabuco Hills (11-11, 5-1). Orange is 1-5 in league play.

In the Sunrise League:

Connelly 18, Bishop Conaty 2 (5 innings)--Cynthia Flores had two triples, a single and three RBIs for Connelly at home. Christa Tomacheski had two triples, a double and three RBIs for the Koalas (7-2, 4-0). Bishop Conaty is 0-4 in league play.
