Little Town Song Wins at Los Alamitos
George Hottel’s 4-year-old mare, Little Town Song, continued her rise up the claiming ladder Friday night, winning the seventh race by a nose over Rockayita at Los Alamitos.
Little Town Song sped 350 yards in 17.80 seconds for her second consecutive victory and third in seven starts this season.
Jockey Bruce Pilkenton guided the bay mare by Song Of My Heart to victory. Pilkenton broke with the leader Rockayita, racing head and head with the Charles Treece-trained mare the length of the stretch. Rockayita held a neck advantage at the gap and sixteenth call but once again couldn’t hold off Little Town Song near the wire.
The $8,500 victory moved Little Town Song over $14,000 in earnings for the year. Little Town Song is trained by Daryn Charlton and started the year as a $5,000 claimer. She paid $16.60, $5.80 and $3.20.
