OJAI : Car Dealer Told to Install Smaller Sign

Share

Ojai officials are giving the city’s only auto dealership 30 days to rein in a bucking bronco sign that they say takes up too much window space.

The Ojai Planning Commission has ordered Dick Bronk of Bronk Vreeland Ojai Ford to resubmit a display plan for his new business that will conform with the city’s strict sign ordinance.

Planning Director William Prince said his staff could not support the large signs the company already has installed or new signs that Bronk has proposed.

Bronk said he had been unaware of the sign ordinance and is striving to keep the small-town flavor of the building, at 821 W. Ojai Ave., which has changed little since the mid-1950s.

“It’s not the time we want to be sending signals to the community that there are exceptions,” Prince said. The city is requiring all its older businesses to conform to the sign code by Nov. 12.
